Objectives: To create multiple instances for Tomoye’s Practice Area. To create number of virtual machines.
Notes: The installation of VMware v2.0 recommended not in Active Directory.
Tasks:
- Install VMware for Virtual Server
- Create Virtual Machines
- Installing Guest Operating Systems
- Installing VMware Tools package in your guest operating system for enhanced performance and features.
- Create additional datastores and add existing virtual machines to your inventory.
- Start using Virtual Machines.
- Virtual Machine Storage path E:\Virtual Machinges\
- FQDN – http://vm01.king.net
- Server HTTP port: 8222 default
- Server HTTPS port 8333 default
- Allow virtual machines to start and stop automatically with the system.
- Create shortcuts:
- - Desktop
- - Start Menu Programs Folder
- - Quick Launch toolbar
- Installation begins …
- Enter your serial number e.g. xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
- Installation of Virtual Server is complete. Restart the server.
Create a New Virtual Machine:
- Click on create a virtual machine.
- Select the Operating System e.g. Windows Operating System, Novell, Linux Operating System, etc.
- Memory and Processor, memory size is 512Mb and Processors count is 1
- Hard Disk, a virtual disk is a special type of file, which will start small and then grow larger as you add applications and data to your virtual machine. Options: Create a New Virtual Disk, Use an Existing Virtual Disk or Don’t Add a Hard Disk.
o How much software and data should this hard disk be able to store?
o Capacity is 50GB
o Location: Standard Virtual Machine Test2/Virtual Machine Test1.vmdk
- Network Adapters give your virtual machine access to port groups that have been configured for virtual machine use on the host. If no such port groups have been configured, you will not be able to connect to any network. Options: Add a Network Adapter and Don’t Add a Network Adapter.
o Properties, which network will your virtual machine access? Options: Bridged, HostOnly and NAT. Selected Bridged.
o Connect at Power On: Check on Yes
- CD and DVD media can be accessed on the host system or on your local computer.
o Host Media: Use a Physical Drive.
o Properties: In order to access this media, a disc must be in the drive specified below, and the drive must be connected to your virtual machine.
o If you will use this device to install an operating system, you should insert the installation disc before powering on your virtual machine.
o Host CD/DVD Drive: D
o Connect at Power On: Checked Yes
o Virtual Device Node: default
- Floppy Drive media can be accessed on the host system or on your local computer
o Host Media: Don’t use a Floppy Drive.
o This is options if you choose to add a Floppy Drive
o Properties: In order to access this media, a disc must be in the drive specified below, and the drive must be connected to your virtual machine.
o Image File: ?
o Connect at Power on: Checked Yes
- USB Controller gives your virtual machine access to USB devices plunged into the host.
o Don’t Add a USB Controller.
- Ready to Complete: please verify that your new virtual machine is configured correctly.
o Name: Virtual Machine Test1
o Location: Standard
o Guest Operating System: Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard for x64
o Memory: 512 Mb
o Processors: 1
o Hard Disk: 50 GB
o Network: Using “Bridged”
o CD/DVD Drive: Using “D:”
o USB Controller: No
- Click on Finish
To install the Guest Operating System to the Virtual Machine, please insert the Windows 2003 Server CD1 to the CD/DVD drive.
Start the Virtual Machine
In Console
- It will prompt you to install VMware Remote Console Plug-in, it is recommended.
NOTE: Host is running x64 CPU with VMware Virtual Server v2.0.
ERROR: Attempting to load an x64 operating system, however this CPU is not compatible with x64 mode. Please install a 32-bit x86 operating system.
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.
When I exit, the system continued to boot anyway.
Run the VMware guest64check-5.5.0-18463.exe. This host is capable of running a 64-bit guest operating system under this VMware product. NOTE: If you have this error, check your hardware Virtualization Technology. You need to enable it, normally through BIOS setup. For example, using DELL hardware. Press F2-Setup during boot up, go to CPU Information and enable the Virtualization Technology to fix this error.
