Morning Whale Watch

Posted by EM@KING.NET

During this two-hour whale watch, the Teralani searches for the Pacific humpback whale. Each winter, the Pacific humpback whale migrates from Alaska to the waters off the coast of Maui. These "gentle giants" are one of Maui's most prized visitors with their spectacular breaching and tail slapping. Throughout whale season (December 15 - April 15), the Teralani departs each day from Kaanapali for a daily excursion. A marine naturalist is onboard to offer insights and education on the humpback whale. ...

Bing Overtakes Yahoo for a second place in search.

Posted by Anonymous On 6/05/2009 08:52:00 AM 0 comments
Just days after the launch of BING decision search from Microsoft already took the 2nd spot in search engine market. This is great result of their advertising money or people just like the new Microsoft search and decision results.

"Microsoft's Bing overtook Yahoo! as the number two search engine in the United States and worldwide Thursday (4th June) according to data from StatCounter Global Stats. StatCounter says that Bing grabbed market share from Google.

StatCounter's analysis for Thursday finds that in the US Bing leapfrogged Yahoo to take second place on 16.28%. Yahoo! has 10.22%. Google still commands the US search engine market with 71.47%." (2009, Statcounter.com)

New iPhone coming by June 2009

Posted by Anonymous On 5/30/2009 06:47:00 AM 0 comments
If you're planning to buy a new mobile phone, I recommend to wait 'till June 8 where Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2009 (WWDC09) will happen on June 8-12 in San Francisco, new technologies will be announce.

"A new image we obtained is embedded above and shows the same matte case beside the current iPhone 3G, which is housed in a shinier plastic casing. The side-by-side image shows the clear difference between the two finishes. We have no further evidence that this case necessarily represents what the next iPhone will look like, but it does seem to be consistent with circulating rumors." (2009, Macrumors.com)

It's good to know Rick Latona highlighted some premiums .TV domain names to be included in Amsterdan auction this coming June 4th Targetted Traffic Conference. Here are the lists (some) of noted domain names up for grab.

Help.tv renewal fee of $1K with $37,500 reserve
Home.tv renewal fee of $1.5k with $90K reserve
Traffic.tv renewal fee of $750 with $25K reserve
Lawyers.tv renewal fee of $750 with $25K reserve
Sales. tv renewal fee of $750 with $14K reserve
Racing.tv renewal fee of $750 with $14K reserve
Classic.tv renewal fee of $750 with  $15k reserve
Classics.tv renewal fee of $750 with  $15k reserve
Germany.tv renewal fee of $1K with $75K reserve
Today.tv renewal fee of $750 with $9K reserve

Note: The renewal fee is per year.

As of writting this article, I've checked the ownership of the domain names still with Enom. If you go to Enom.tv website, you can still see the actual premium price as shown below.

Germany.tv $25K annually
Today.tv $5K annually
Classic.tv $5K annually
Classics.tv $5K annually
Racing.tv  $5K annually
Sales. tv  $5K annually
Lawyers.tv $7.5K annually
Traffic.tv $10K annually
Home.tv $50K annually
Help.tv  $25K annually

Even the price cut renewal of these domains, some entrepreneurs still see it too high to maintain and I agree. At this reserve amount, only established entrepreneurs, small-medium business owners and corporations can participate to this auction. I guess that's their goal.

As I've asked last couple of weeks, Why .TV still not dominating the cyberspace? despite of universal branding of TV and common "term" in every countries. I hope the auction in Amsterdamm will give enough buzz for .TV domain names. Only time can tell.

Whaddya know about Swine Flu?

Posted by Anonymous On 4/29/2009 12:38:00 AM 0 comments
Let's all take a break in posting articles and learn the basic of swine flu virus. I have no idea so I went surfing the Internet to get some information and found this from CNN website.

"Swine Flue?
Swine influenza, or swine flu, is a respiratory disease in pigs caused by a certain strain of type A influenza virus. Outbreaks of swine flue are not common among humans: Most people who get swine flue are infected through contact with pigs.

The severity of swine flu in humans can vary from mild to sever.

How it spreads?
Although people typically get swine flue from contact with pigs, there are have been cases of person-to-person transmission. Experts think coughing, sneezing and contaminated surfaces can spread the infection among people, but it's unknown how easily that happens.

The virus cannot be obtained through eating properly cooked pork or any pork product.

Symptoms
The sysmptoms are similar to those of the common flu: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Also, like the common flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.

Symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting have also been reported. Infection from the virus can lead to sever illness, including pneumonia and respiratory failure, and can be fata.

Treatment
Antiviral drugs, such as oseltamivir or zanamivir, are recommended for treatment and prevention of swine flu. Antiviral drugs are prescription medicines that keep flu viruses from reproducing in the body. Antiviral drugs work best  if treatment is started within two days of the onset of symtoms." Twitter spikes their traffic to 19Million

They are now serving at least 19 Million visitors, and I'm proud to say I am one of them (follow me at http://t.king.net).

"Twitter’s march towards world domination continues apace. This morning comScore released its global numbers for March, 2009. Worldwide visitors to Twitter.com increased 95 percent in the month of March from 9.8 million to 19.1 million, according to its estimates. This compares to9.3 million visitors in the U.S. alone.

These numbers only count visitors to Twitter’s Website, which is not the same as active users and also does not include people who interact with Twitter via desktop or mobile clients (a large portion of users). But the comScore numbers provide a good proxy for Twitter’s overall growth, which was helped recently by Ashton Kutcher’s race with CNN to one million followers, and Oprah’s subsequent adoption of the service.

If Twitter can keep this rate of growth up, it should cross 50 million visitors by summer" (2009, TechCrunch.com)

Keepon dancing to Spoon's "I Turn My Camera On"

One little yellow robot is a hot contender for cutest medical device.

"Two years ago, a yellow spongiform robot named Keepon became a minor YouTube sensation when one of its creators programmed it to do a squishy, twisty dance in time to the Spoon song "I Turn My Camera On." The video has garnered more than 2 million hits. Now Keepon's keepers, Marek Michalowski, a Ph.D student in robotics at Carnegie Mellon University, and Hideki Kozima of Miyagi University in Japan, are turning Keepon's attention to a more serious task: to study how children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) interact socially and to see if the robot may be able to help in therapy." fring news: iPhone new version in the App Store Now

New update from Fring to support iPhone firmware 3.0
===
I just wanted to let you know that there’s a new version of fring in the App Store with some features users have been asking us for, providing an even smoother fringing experience.

You can now choose whether to show or hide your Offline contacts and regular GSM buddies. And for convenience, we’ve moved fring settings to the general iPhone settings, so there’s no need to open fring each time you want to make a small change.
You’ll also notice a small flag symbol in the top left hand corner of the dialer screen, Tap this and you’ll get a list of countries. Select the one you’re calling and the International dial code will automatically be entered making overseas Skype Out and SIP calls even easier.

We’re also just finishing off a notification add-on for this version. This add-on will notify you when your friends are trying to connect with you whilst your fring is closed. This of course includes all the different services (Skype, MSN, Google talk etc)

To make this as useful as possible, we are conducting a gradual roll-out, starting with the UK and US. This service will eventually be in line with Apple’s 3.0 firmware and new notification feature.

New movie is available here.
Screenshots are available here.

As always, I'd love to hear your feedback.

Cheers,

14 Dead in New York shooting.

I read this post from CNN regarding this incident today in New York.

"The gunman had barricaded the door of the center with his car and nobody could get out.
At first, Tokhtabayeba wasn't sure what was happening.

"I never heard shootings before. I thought someone was joking, maybe, something falling on the floor," she said.

But then she realized the reality of what was unfolding around her." (2009, CNN.com)
Microsoft release availability of Internet Explorer 8.0 at the company's MIX09 conference and available for download at 9am Pacific Time March 19.

I'm so excited of this release so I went to read the features of IE 8. Well some of the text still pointing to Internet Explorer 7.0 hmmm.. Anyway, let's explore the features that will benefit us as a users.
  • Tabbed browsing. I saw this already in IE 7.0 released. I haven't explore much about Quick Tabs and Tab Groups. I wanted to see in IE 8.0 to drag and drop to another open browser just like the Google Chrome. I have nothing to share for Instant Search Box, RSS Feeds, Favorites, etc. I think this should be part of standard internet explorer.
  • Dynamic Security Protection. ActiveX opt-in is a good addition to prompt users options to install it. I suggest to disable it, you can go back and activate this feature from the Add-on Manager. The Phishing Filter is definitely a good feature to protect you against potential or known fraudulent websites.

Hmm reading these features seems the same from the last released of Internet Explorer 7.0. I think they haven't updated the website yet for IE 8.0. I will need to go back to this article again for updates. Though the download for Internet Explorer 8.0 is ready for you. Check it out.

Other good alternative Internet Browsers as listed below:

REDC Acquires Domain Name Auction.com for $1.7M

Posted by Anonymous On 3/18/2009 01:02:00 AM 0 comments
I've read this Press Release from the Google News today, very wise decision to make by REDC Chairman Robert Friedman. It is a great acquisition to support a business.

"RVINE, Calif., March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- REDC, the leader in real estate auctions, has acquired the domain name, Auction.com, for $1.7 million, company Chairman Robert Friedman announced today.
"I've wanted this domain for years and I'm thrilled that we were able to acquire this coveted top level domain," Friedman says. "REDC is without question the number one real estate auctioneer in America and quite likely the world. This is a domain we should have had from the beginning and I'm thrilled we are finally Auction.com."
REDC's consumer website for Lender Foreclosed home auctions, until now, has been http://www.ushomeauction.com/. The company is in the process of making the conversion to http://www.auction.com/ exclusively." (2009, PRNewswire.com)
