During this two-hour whale watch, the Teralani searches for the Pacific humpback whale. Each winter, the Pacific humpback whale migrates from Alaska to the waters off the coast of Maui. These "gentle giants" are one of Maui's most prized visitors with their spectacular breaching and tail slapping. Throughout whale season (December 15 - April 15), the Teralani departs each day from Kaanapali for a daily excursion. A marine naturalist is onboard to offer insights and education on the humpback whale. ...

.CM Sunrise Period Opens at EuroDNS

Posted by Anonymous On 6/15/2009 12:04:00 AM 2 comments
EuroDNS announced sunrise period for .CM today. The .CM is the country code top level domain (ccTLD) for the Republic of Cameroon. It is another domain name extension to use for your personal or business. Instead of having .com .net .org or .etc, you can also register randompage.cm domain name if you own the trademark rights for "randompage" starting June 15 'till July 14.

According to PR website "During the Sunrise phase, the minimum registration period is 2 years and applicants must hold a valid and issued trademark at the time of application. If there is more than one valid Sunrise application for the same domain name, the name will be awarded to the registrant with the oldest registered trademark. Each domain application costs 360 EUR with a non-refundable fee of 60 EUR, including a two years term." (2009, prweb.com)

On July 15th-31th Landrush period, all domain name applications will be subjected to a premium fee (260 EUR including 2 years term) and an auction system.

The live registration is on August 1st, 2009 where everyone can register a .CM domain name on a first come first serve basis. The minimum registration is 1 year and the price differ from registrar.

One of the sell pitch is "People often forget to type the "o" when looking for .com domain name, and having your domain name in .cm could secure a lot of traffic". (2009, prweb.com). This is the similar approach for selling .CO the country code top level domain (ccTLD) for Colombia. That's a good one but the business minded people forget to include the changes of technology. For example, some business network are now using openDNS network for web filtering security, where if you type www.randompage.co or www.randompage.cm the system will automatically redirect to www.randompage.com website. So my assumption, even you own .co or .cm domain name, the openDNS (any related web filtering tools) will consider this a typo of .com website. Making this extension useless for you.

I will not be surprise if Internet Service Provider is going to use OpenDNS web filtering tools as this service is free to use for personal or business. They can stop the fraud website on the DNS level before this going to the customer web page. And if you are not using this tool (OpenDNS), visit the website today and protect your network.

Candy.com sold for $3M

Posted by Anonymous On 6/03/2009 06:16:00 PM 0 comments
I just learned this today that Candy.com domain name is SOLD for a whooping $3M by Rick Schwartz to G&J Holdings. Continue reading the article and find out how the deal was done.

"G&J Holdings Announces the Purchase and Development of Candy.Com

BOSTON, MA — June 3, 2009 — G&J Holdings, LLC today announced the purchase and acquisition of the web domain Candy.Com and the development of a new internet based confections retailer d/b/a Candy.Com. A growing distribution channel that is here to stay, G&J Holdings, LLC has invested in Candy.com for the purchase price of $3,000,000. The new internet candy retailer will service the growing demand for consumers to find their favorite bulk, gourmet, and gift confectionary products with great service, a unique and social shopping experience, competitively priced products, and expedited shipping." (2009, Rickblog.com)

It's been a while since Rick is blogging this sale and he can't give us the name of the buyer. We thought the buyer is from a well known candy business but we all guess wrong. The new owner gave them a clear advantage in online Candy business. Congrats to the buyer and seller for Candy.com domain name.

Knowing the value of domain name in every business, if you would like to become a reseller read this article http://reseller.king.net. You may also check http://reseller.moscom.com offering, a GoDaddy partner.

Domain Name still a good business.

Posted by Anonymous On 5/05/2009 08:24:00 PM 0 comments
Based on these random interview, you still have a shot to do business in domain name industry. A lot of opportunity to introduce the domain name as business tool to increase productivity.

"What do regular folks think of the domain industry and domainers? Howard Hits The Street to find out as he grabs a microphone and camera and strolls Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Florida" (2009, Youtube.com)
I managed my personal and business domain names. I bought some domains to market my IT Consulting Services e.g. http://www.computernetworksupport.com/ for example. This is a long domain name but directly defining what I can provide to a prospective customers.

Last Tuesday March 24, 2009 Telnic.org open the registration to the public. Yes everyone can register .TEL domain extension for under $10 per year. I hope I can get king.tel but Carol Bucca from NJ registered the domain during land-rush for 3 years for at least $300. According to the whois record, king.tel was registered last March 23 a day before the public launch.

Launch Information

  • Sunrise - registrations reserved for trademark owners 3 December 2008 - 2 February 2009
  • Landrush - registrations open to all at a premium price 3 February 2009 - 23 March 2009
  • General Availability - registrations open to all 24 March 2009
So, it is really good to have your own .TEL domain name?
I can create my own emie.com or i.king.net to provide the same format if I want. So what is the benefit of getting your own .tel? I registered Filipino.Tel to test the management interface. I found out that you don't need a website to host .tel. You can input all the information you want to share in public .e.g to show the contact information your phone number (of course), website, instant messaging, sms, etc. So I don't really need to buy one for my personal use.

There is a friend interface that I haven't use yet. I will be looking to check it out.

The advantage of having .tel domain is you can easily update your information on the fly. No hosting or programming needed to manage your account. At this date, you can still register your firstname or lastname .tel domain name.

What about my business .Tel?
For securing your business or company brand, I highly recommended that you buy the .tel.
It is also an alternative ways to invest your money. Other than that, I can't think of good use of .Tel.

Additional information About .tel
"The value of a .tel domain lies with the ability to host personal (or corporate) contact information directly in the DNS, which can then be universally accessible. This stands in contrast to the typical use of the DNS for other TLDs, in which the DNS only provides a mapping between domain names and IP Addresses." (2009, Telnic.org)

Keep in mind, this is my humble opinion only. You might have different views or business approach, please post your comment here.

Thank you,

My Blog URL Address - BLOG.KING.NET

Posted by Anonymous On 2/23/2009 01:07:00 AM 0 comments
This post is not one of the HOW TO article but a small feedback from my readers.

Some of my readers suggested to change my blog URL address to http://blog.king.net to simplify and easy to remember. I agree with this suggestion and it make sense, though it's been years already since I've started using http://my.king.net as my blog URL address.

Well, I guess it can be resolve by creating another URL forwarding using http://blog.king.net to http://my.king.net to accomodate the request. There you go, you can now use http://blog.king.net URL address. I've checked it today and it is now resolving.

Your suggestions and feedback is always welcome here.
Year 2009 is to keep more cash for your business needs, to maintain your business operations and stay in business. I've read this article from CNN today titled "2009: Keep more cash!" I've got some useful informations for me to consider when filing my tax returns. Though just like other entrepreneurs out there, I have many questions to ask.

Profit from losses:
This is getting interesting when I continue to read the article. You can actually recoup some of the money by executing what's called a net operating loss (NOL) carryback. This is the first time I've learned about this specific tax code.

"Here's how the carryback works. Say you lost $1 million in 2008 after turning a $500,000 profit in each of the previous two years. You carry the loss backward by having your accountant amend your 2007 tax return to offset the entire profit for that year. You would then be due a refund on any federal taxes you paid on that profit - and state taxes in roughly a third of the states. You would still show a loss balance of $500,000, which you could carry back to 2006 and offset your profit for that year as well." (2009, CNN)

You can carry a NOL forward to offset profits for up to 20 years.

Though after reading this example computation, I'm still in the dark side figuring how can I apply this to my business? Who's my accountant HR Block? I'm planning to use Turbo Tax this year tax returns. Woow!

Sometimes, I asked myself why I choosed B.S. Computer Engineering and not Accounting or Financial Management. Well that's another story to tell.

Staying Positive through a Tough Economy

Posted by Anonymous On 1/30/2009 01:22:00 AM 0 comments
Guest Post (2009, Buydomains.com)

As we are all aware, the global financial system has brought many world economies into a recession which is affecting many businesses small and medium businesses. Let BuyDomains share with you some tips intended to help you ride through these challenging economic and come out a stronger business than before.
  • Think positive — "Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier" — Colin Powell. If you believe that achieving your success goals is impossible due to the economy — then you will most likely make this happen. Let your positive thoughts be the guide to your actions and you will succeed.
  • Keep your marketing wheels in motion — cutting costs is a necessity during a weak economy, but beware of where you cut them. Studies show that companies, who stick to their marketing plans, come out stronger when the economy turns.
  • Leverage the power of the internet — Are you selling products or services from your website? Can you expand sales through other channels? Are you leveraging the power of email marketing to its fullest extent? Is your website fully optimized for the search engines? Do you have the right domain name to drive qualified traffic to your website? Have you considered a localized domain? It doesn't have to be costly to implement an online marketing and sales strategy. At a time when every dollar counts, defining an effective Internet strategy and acquiring the right web address the first time is more important to business success than ever before — especially for businesses with limited resources and budget.
  • Reach Out to Your Customer Base — One of the most overlooked business opportunities comes from your existing and past clients. The fact that they have already done business with you makes it far more likely that they will do business with you in the future. Make sure you are not only marketing to them, but also asking for their feedback on how to serve them better. If you decide to survey your customers, make sure you share your findings with them and are implementing positive change.
  • Make Improvements — This is an ideal time to evaluate all of your policies and procedures. Could your sales team benefit from some additional training? How can you help your company perform even better? What steps can you take to improve customer loyalty? Look at your business through a magnifying class and seize the opportunity to improve it across the board.
  • Brainstorm — Tap you network and assemble a small group of people who understand your business and brainstorm opportunities. When several people get together with a blank slate and some good energy, you might be surprised by the results!
  • Think outside the box — be on the lookout for new opportunities — stay on top of the market and your industry.
  • Re-evaluate your priorities — Now is a great time to sharpen your own skills. Take classes, read books and network with others in your industry so you can learn from them. Get involved in your trade association and make sure you are on top of your game. Are you spending your energies in the right place? What can you do to make your company better and stronger? Leave the worrying to your competitors and instead seek out opportunities and stay positive. When you put the right energy and focus into your business — despite the economy — the results can extraordinary!

Very entertaining to watch, only dot can tell.

If you are using Google Adsense as publisher, you should know by now that you can also use Google for Domains for your undevelop domain names. Read here if you missed this article (Extending Adsense for domains to all publishers). All North American based publishers should have their Google for Domains access starting December 18, 2008.

You need to setup your domain name www A record to the CNAME (alias) with your unique adsense ID provided to you. Here's the step-by-step setup to use Google for Domains. (For this example, I'm using my enom reseller account and if you don't have enom reseller account, read this article http://reseller.king.net/ to get one).
  • Login to http://www.enom.com/ website with your reseller account
  • Click Domains (located in header menu). Scroll down and you will see the Quickly manage this domain.
  • Type your domain name and click go. I will manage one of my domain name donatecash.com for this example.
  • In donatecash.com page, click Host Records to edit host records.
  • In Edit Host Records, you can make the necessary update.
  • www CNAME (alias) pub-xxxxxxxxxx.afd.ghs.google.com.
  • @ A Address 216.239.32.21
  • @ A Address 216.239.34.21
  • @ A Address 216.239.36.21
  • @ A Address 216.239.38.21
  • Click on Save to finish.

NOTE: The pub-xxxxxxxxxx is your unique identifier. You can get this information from your Google Adsense website.

How to add domains for your Google for domains?

OK, we just updated the DNS record for donatecash.com domain name. Now let's login to your Google Adsense account here http://www.google.com/adsense, using your account information.

  • Login to http://www.google.com/adsense website.
  • Click the Adsense Setup tab, click on Adsense for Domains.
  • In Adsense for Domains page, you will see your unique identifier. You need this information as discussed above.
  • To add donatecash.com domain name, click on Add new domains.
  • In Add Individual Domains, type your domain name. In this example, I'm using donatecash.com domain.
  • Select the language
  • Click Add domain(s)

The newly added domain(s) will be in Pending tab, as well as your Active (approved domains), and Disapproved domains according to Google policy. Now wait for 30 minutes or so and check if your domain(s) is approved or disapproved.

If your domain names still in verifying ownership status, this means that the changes is not propagated to the Internet after the last checked of Google. You just need to wait, something it will take 4-28 hours to completely propagate the changes of DNS worldwide. In my experience here in North America, it will only take 4 hours. I think Enom DNS management doing it's job to quickly update my DNS records.

When your domain is ready, then go ahead open your Google Chrome or Internet Explorer to see your domain name if properly resolving. My donatecash.com domain name is now accessible and this is the default page of Google for Domains. You can customize the color of your text. Hopefully Google will improve this service in the future, maybe adding ways for us to update our template (look and feel of the website just like the google apps), etc.

Ok we accomplished one domain name, how about if you own hundreds of domain name. That's easy to implement using your Enom reseller account. Here's how to.

  • Login to http://www.enom.com/ again
  • Click on Domains, Bulk Tools, then click on Global Edit
  • In Welcome to the Global Edit wizard, select Model Domain, click on Next
  • In Step 2: What do you want to update?, select Host Settings, then click Next
  • In Step 3: Which method would you like to use?, select "List" method (most cases), then click Next
  • In Step 4: Add domains, type all the domain names you want to update or use the pre-fill list, then click on Next
  • In Step 5: Select the "model" domain, type donatecash.com (I've used in my first setup) or click select from list, click on Next.
  • In Step 6: Review and apply changes. You will see the summary of your action. If this is correct, click on apply changes.
  • done

Then go back to your Google for Domains (adsense) to add more domains. See it's easy to update multiple domain names to use Google for Domains.

Next is to see the revenue comparison between Google for Domains and domain parking companies that provides google feeds.

How to Prepare Meeting Minutes

Posted by Anonymous On 7/22/2008 09:49:00 PM 0 comments
This is great, I'm doing minutes of our meeting ... yacks! Well it's another information to share with you.

I did not reinvent the wheel, I used the Internet to netstumble finding information available and here's what I found out (courtesy of eHow.com).

Thing's you'll need, pen and paper:

Step1 Distribute a sign in sheet so you have a record of who attended. The sign in sheet should ask the people to print their names so you have the correct spelling and it’s a good idea to include contact information in case there are questions about what may have been said during the meeting.
Step2 Prepare an agenda prior to meeting and use that document to take your notes.
Step3 If, in the course of the meeting there are action or follow up items, place an X next to those items on the paper.
Step4 You don’t need to write down every comment or remark. Note only the key points that are being made and who said them.
Step5 At the close of meeting summarize, to the group, the key points you have in your notes and ask if they agree.
Step6 After this is done summarize all the action or follow up items indicated with the X. Those items should be at the bottom of the Meeting Minutes.
Step7 Send out a draft of minutes to all who attended to see if they agree.
Step8 After the draft comments have been incorporated send out the final version of the Meeting Minutes.

Here's a templates courtesy by Microsoft.

In addition to this approach, I created a document with all the information related to this specific meeting. This is to cover all the bases, you know what happen in corporate world when things get in shallow area. Finger pointing.

Microsoft And Yahoo Talks Back On

Posted by Anonymous On 6/24/2008 06:36:00 AM 0 comments
We’ve got multiple sources at both Yahoo and Microsoft telling us that official talks are back on between the two companies. But we’re hearing something different than CNET - the talks are about a full buyout again, not a sweetened search-only deal.

The information we have is thin, but what one source is saying that Microsoft is talking a price lower than the $33 they were offering when the talks disintegrated in May. Given Yahoo’s recent share price (it’s below $21 today), and the fact that just about everyone other than their board and top execs are publicly screaming for a deal, I’m not surprised.
